France has always attracted people from across the world, due to the beautiful and historical places it boasts of. While many UK travelers are fixated on visiting Paris because of the nice architecture, arts, and traditions, there are other places of interest.
Monaco is one of the top spots in French Territory which you should definitely visit. I will be sharing my experience about the Monaco yacht show and talk about the hotels, transportation and places I visited.
Key Points
Regarding the Monaco Yacht Show
The Monaco Yacht show was launched in 1991 by a French entrepreneur named Maurice Cohen. Due to some circumstances, the rights were sold to a management firm, IIR, for better promotion. This yacht show promises people an amazing luxury yachting experience that can’t be found anywhere in the world. You will see about 150 yachts at this show.
Accommodations Around the Monaco Yacht Show
My first night in the city, I lodged at The Monte Carlo Bay Hotel and resort because of the positive reviews I got online. A single room starts at $400. However, the most expensive luxury suites go around $7,500. My room had a solarium which allowed me to have a perfect view of the Mediterranean Sea.
After two days, I left Monte Carlo Bay, and moved to the Hotel Hermitage because of a recommendation I got from a fellow tourist. My room cost $450, but the five-star facilities offered made it worthwhile.
After some time, I decided to explore the Fairmont Monte Carlo Hotel because it is a cheaper option when considering hotel accommodation close to the Yacht show in Monaco. I paid $300 for a single room and the rooms come with a good heating system and sea view.
Transportation options around Monaco yacht show
When I was at the Monaco Yacht Show, here are some transportation options I used and now recommend.
Bus
While Monaco boasts of many bus options, during the week, buses in the city stop working at 9:00 pm. I found this out the hard way when I went to party. I was helped to my hotel by a local who saw that I was stranded at about 11:00 pm. However, weekends are better, because you can get bus services even at 5:00 am.
Walking
This is what made my time at the Monaco yacht show a worthy experience. However, I will advise that you book a hotel close to the show, to be able to walk around easily. If ever I was bored in the morning, I put on my trainers, with a hoodie and surveyed all the stores, restaurants and beaches around the show area.
Places I Visited in Monaco
Jimmy’z is one of those places close to the Monaco Yacht Show I visited. I will advise you to look your best when coming to this place to have an easy entrance. I was given a heads-up by a fellow tourist who comes regularly.
After leaving there, beside the Port of Monaco is the popular Brasserie de Monaco where I had a cold beer. It cost $7.50 for a full mug. I also had chicken and chips at McDonald’s where I paid $15.75.
Before leaving Monaco, I also visited a restaurant close to the Grimaldi Forum Center and Fairmont Hotel called Le Twiga. This is a lively place owned by Formula 1 boss, Flavio Briatore. I went on a Saturday with some friends and we bought grilled chicken and had Vodka drinks. I spent around $30 on food and drinks and had bad fun with other tourists.
The Monaco Yacht show remains one of the most popular French Riviera events in France Territory. I won’t say it’s a cheap vacation, but you will get the value for every penny spent.
